Nido Bay Inn, El Nido, Palawan

Finding an accommodation during trips is like a game for me.  I win if I get the balance of affordability, comfort, clean bathroom, and great customer service.  I’ve had these in my stays in Peredo’s Lodging House in Baguio City, Crystal Beach Resort in San Narciso, Zambales, Flotsam and Jetsam Hostel in San Juan, La Union, and Uma Dewi Guest House in Ubud, Bali.  And, most recently, at Nido Bay Inn in El Nido, Palawan.

We were clear with what we wanted:  clean bathroom, with a good supply of running water, beach front – so we could hear the calming sounds of the waves, air-conditioned room because we would be working during the earlier part of the trip and so we would stay mostly indoors, and a balcony where we could hang out and feel and breathe fresh air.  Plus, of course, somewhere affordable and would fit our budget of Php 750.00 per head.

There were a lot of options, to be honest.  Others were even cheaper.  But, there’s mostly a catch.  And, so, we would move to the next option.  But, what set Nido Bay Inn, our accommodation of choice in El Nido, Palawan, apart was its topnotch customer service.  It became apparent from when we first made contact with them (and after reading a not-so-pleasant review on Tripadvisor).

I called them and Shiela answered the phone.  She responded to all my questions with facts and I could sense that she wanted to set our expectations right – about the room, the view, the location, and the internet connection.  She was accommodating, friendly, honest, and confident.  As I have been a customer service manager for several years, that was a definite plus for me – ‘cos I know that, should we encounter anything not to our liking, they would go the extra mile to make sure that we would get the value of what we paid for.

And, I was totally right.  They extended our deadline for settling the rest of the downpayment when it slipped my mind that we were staying for 5 days and not 3.  They sent a driver to fetch us from the terminal when we thought that we had to find our own way to the hotel, because they wanted to make sure that we find them okay. Everyone was smiling and made us feel like we were welcome to stay with them and that they were grateful that we chose them amongst all the other options.  They helped us carry our bags to our rooms when they were actually very light, ‘cos we are kinda light packers, ya know. 🙂  They asked what we would want to have for breakfast and knocked on our doors to make sure that we get to eat them while the food’s warm.  They also made sure we were served breakfast, facing the beach, which made it all the more special.

They offered tours without being pushy, like they were just letting us know our options because they wanted us to enjoy our stay in El Nido.  Bottom line, they treated us as more than guests – we were like friends to them.  Friends who they want to have fun and who they would only entrust to their most reliable driver friend, Kuya Jerry (will write about him on my next post).

I totally recommend Nido Bay Inn.  You will get your money’s worth and so much more. 🙂
